One of the biggest and most extravagant sports events of the year is the Super Bowl. No one can argue that the NFL has positioned the Super Bowl brand as the premier branding and advertising opportunity. With millions of viewers each year, and numbers climbing annually, spectators can gather a few lessons on personal branding and reaching a new age of consumers. Super Bowl Sunday is not just a night to argue over which team will win, but an evening to soak up the creative marketing content and apply those strategies to our own personal brands.

Protect your brand:
As National Football League works diligently to secure the Super Bowl brand, it is important to safeguard your personal brand, too. Your brand is a vehicle in which others perceive you; therefore, you should develop, market and protect your brand. Since your brand encompasses many unique attributes about yourself, it is important to practice deliberate, calculated tactics and strategies to create and nurture your brand – or else others will be doing it for you.

Reinvent yourself:
The Super Bowl has been running for 47 years and still reigns as one of the most anticipated sports events of the year through reinvention. Thus, with your personal brand, remember your audience and to consider change and evolution over time. Marketing metamorphosis not only allows you to maintain the same following, but also propels you to reach a different audience base.

Brevity:
Super Bowl ads have a minute or less to make an indelible mark on its viewers. Viral marketing puts this to the test, as viral content has to be delivered as quickly as possible. Personal branding continues to take off through social media, showing that is it is important to be succinct. Get your point across quickly through visual media, concise articles, and brief video posts.

Shock-Value:
Go in for the kill with a shocking message or symbol. The Super Bowl develops buzz worthy news through bombshell announcements or radical commercials. Whether the content be provocative or humorous, the Super Bowl makes sure to grab your attention. With your unique personal brand, you can generate awareness through ads/endorsements, graphic tricks, and a creative logo. Whatever direction your brand takes, be memorable! Be funny, be surprising, be educational, be glamorous! Create the buzz necessary to get the word out on your brand and to make it unforgettable.

Great article! My favorite Super Bowl commercial was Ram Truck's "Farmer". I felt the photography and speech created a strong combination and powerful message.
